Motocross Action Magazine tests the new 2022 Yamaha YZ85 and YZ85 Big Wheel. Yamaha has a host of updates to these bikes including a new sub-frame, new rear brake master cylinder, suspension updates, body work, and more. Assistant editor Josh Mosiman breaks down both of these motorcycles in this video and describes what it was like on track riding them. Yamaha is going all in on two strokes still and we're thrilled to see it. Yamaha is the last of the Japanese manufacturers still producing a full line of two stroke models to choose from. How does the Yamaha big wheel compare to the all new KX112 Super Mini? Is it better than a KTM 85? We answer these questions and plenty more in this video.

I LOVE the sound of a small bore 2-stroke... music to my ears. Thanks!

I raced professional motocross 60-70’s Montesa 125 and CZ 400. I am older but at 150’pounds, 5’8” I bought a YZ 85 for trail riding, Light weight 2 stroke, and smell of oil. Good memories. Perfect bike for me at my age. I own a Super Duke and MV Augusta Dragster 800rr for street. The YZ 85 keeps your giggling! I grew up in El Paso where huge sand dunes everywhere. 2 strokes rule the dirt. Light weight, feather clutching, on/off powerband! Love it.

Thank goodness you guys are going to put some focus on minis, been asking for that for years now, happy to hear it is happening. Every spring, I see more new 50s, 65s, 85s and super minis on the line than new 250 and 450 four strokes.

97 yz80 my first bike loved that thing. Me and my dad raced it 2 summers fond memories. Had fmf fatty rev pipe and power core 2 silencer. Fast little machine can only imagine how better the 85s are now

I would love to see more of the 2-stroke minis on your sites etc. Especially the big wheel bikes.
I’m 57 years old 5’11” and around 160lbs. and race the 55+ class. After not racing or riding for over 21+ years, I hit my first race 03/19/2022 on a Yamaha YZ450F.
After crashing in practice and both moto’s, picking the 450 up was exhausting (I still had a huge smile on my face though) I decided I’m going to race more. So for me I’ll be happy on a 125, 112, or big wheel 85!
Keep up the great work MXA. I’ve been reading your magazine since I was knee high to a grasshopper. 👍🏻👍🏻🏁

Love the 85. Power to weight very similar to YZ 125! That motor is amazing

Got my son a 22 YZ85 for Christmas out here in Japan, been riding a couple of months on it and he loves it. Things I've noticed, you have to remove the float bowl which is pretty tricky to change the pilot jet and the carb is difficult to tilt enough plus a breather tube goes through a loop in the bowl making it even more tricky to remove. Ended up bending the float in doing so, managed to straighten and re-measure and set ok. Recommend lifting the subframe to help remove the carb but need to remove seat, side panels, silencer and loosen rad shrouds plus cut tie raps if using frame guards. A bit to get used to but on a par with having to remove the tank if a KX to get at the carb. The paint on the Frame is also extremely thin and weak, otherwise a great bike. Really looking forward to the full test and review!

Im still happy I got the kx112 instead of the yz85, suspension in my opinion is great but rebound would be nice. I like the softer suspension on mx, to stiff wont go into the ruts over here on the east coast

You need to test them all because there is no small bike reviews out there anyway and I think it's time for your book to show them...

What about Kid sized adults? You realize that some kids are as tall as 5'4" and packing 130-150 lbs. Would this be a good bike for those that dont want a full size due to the larger height of a 125-450?
