This movie should be shown in high school. I think a lot of our generation forgot or was never taught our history in the US formerly Mexico. We’re only taught what black people and Asians went through but not what our people went through in our own land. Some native history of course but nothing focused on Mexican history. It’s important to show our kids where we came from. From the transition of Mexico to US to the zoot suit riots. This is all super important to pass on so that we never lose our heritage and pride.

I regret not watching this movie years ago. Sad movie but great story line opens up a true value what it means as family, true life when obstacle hits you. No matter what you keep going. Every single child has their own path. Fruits may grow from the same tree but it roots spreed in different directions.

"Do you want to tell me something about survival?" such a powerful line coming from a strong woman. Chills every time.

This film (which I thought from the thumbnail was going to be a light hearted comedy about a Italian American family lol) really represents the bittersweet irony that is moving to a different country in hope of a better life but that new country presenting a different host of challenges than they are worth.
Poor 'Chu Cho' and poor Jimmy. I'm glad that his son gave him a new lease for life.

Jjlo's first movie. I've always enjoyed her acting. This movie brings back so many childhood memories, my parents used to love to watch this movie with us. Watching it today after many, many years I still cried my eyes out like the very first time. ❤️
