Ukrainian pilot killed in crash flying F-16 fighter jet gifted from Nato allies | BBC News

One of the F-16 fighter jets sent from Nato allies to Ukraine has been destroyed, a Ukrainian military source has told the BBC.

The aircraft went down amid a barrage of Russian missiles on Monday, killing pilot Oleksiy Mes after he destroyed three cruise missiles and one drone in Russia's largest aerial attack to date, Ukraine's military said.

It marks the first loss of its kind since the planes were delivered earlier this month.

I love how as soon as these news got out, Ukraine says the pilot died repelling a Russian airstrike and the US lays out a statement that it must be because of a pilot error. The absolute nerve to state something like that is so typical to say by an American. Shameless, but still a statement with subtle trickery - a statement made so that no one could argue that the F-16s aren't effective. Cause after all, from an American stand point, if the F-16s are so effective, there's no need to give Ukraine what they really need and give it now, and in the meantime, their objective to prolong the war is still in line.
