Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (PS4) is a remaster of the 2006 FF classic. Are the prettier graphics and slight improvements enough to warrant a purchase? Let's talk.

During probably the lowest points of my life to date, at a time when I ended up living completely alone with a shitty low pay job, an empty fridge and nothing but a dusty PS2 to keep me company.. I unearthed my old copy of FFXII that I hadn't given much time up til then. With depression at an all time high and expectations at an all time low, I slipped that DVD into the console left this pains of this world and returned to magical realm of Evalice. Little did I know how amazing the adventure ahead of me would be, and how much they would change me. I sunk hundreds of hours into this game. It was my comfort, my escape, my friend, while I got back on my feet. I know that sounds pathetic and retarded, but this game really did help me through a hard time and for that reason it will always be amazing to me. It is a shame it doesn't get the credit it deserves!

There is no better way to put it. This game literally engulfed my life for two years. I had zero problems playing this game for 16 hours a day on my days off from work.

Played it when it originally came out, but I was a different gamer then and couldn't really get into the mechanics. Since then I've become addicted to character building in RPG's and creating optimal builds and "perfect" characters and holy shit this game is a dream for that kind of thing. If you're into character building and like getting your grind on every so often this game is for you.

I love FF12. I replay it often. It was even more super awesome because after I had my daughter I was able to play this one handed while I was breastfeeding; helping to keep me awake in those wee hours of the morning. After I have the gambits set up in those sweet spots all I had to do is just walk around with minor tweaks here and there.
And I love the story so much!

the speed up feature is a godsend. feel like it should be an option in many JRPG's. the game, I believe, is a bit of an acquired taste at first - mostly because of the gambit and combat system - but if you can find yourself patient enough to experiment and learn, it definitely can become pretty damn fun. honorable mentions to the Job tree to choose your characters' class combinations and skills/abilities as you progress.

Final Fantasy 12 is actually my favorite game of all time, and I've played it through at least 4 times over the last decade.

This is my favorite game of all time. I sunk more hours into this than any other game I've ever played. Lost a lot of interest in games since then, but I just heard about this remaster, and I think I'm gonna splurge on it. much nostalgia.

This was one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made - great story, amazing 'game' system. The dumbing down of the games by removing items, armor .. heck, even the need to heal your team .. is a terrible trend for the casual gamer market so people can mash buttons for a while then watch mini-movies.

Tidus was actually a great character for X. He was our point of contact for the world of Spira, as he was as clueless as we are in our first playthrough. We experience Spira for the first time with him. Story wise too: not only is he trying to cope with the fact that his world is gone, the fact that he's doing his own pilgrimage to meet his father and get some answers while tagging along with Yuna's pilgrimage to kill herself and save the world is fucking nuts. I love X.

I spent over 300 hours in this game and still had some stuff to do. This game was the shit!

All these remasters always seem like they are at the level of graphics "I remember" from playing the game. Will get the game and play it and think this game doesn't look any different. Then, for the games and systems I still have, I boot up the original game and realize the original games graphics were so much worse than my memory of them.

Vaan was traumatised by the what happened to his brother, making it difficult for him to interact with people. Give the guy a break, at least he doesn't have a forced laughing scene!

FFXII is fucking amazing, I enjoyed every moment of it and spent almost as much time with it as I did FF10. (In fact, probably the only reason I spent more time on FF10 is because of stuff like Catcher Chocobo and monster hunting.) Ivalice is one of my favorite video game universes and it's a damn shame there aren't more games set there.

Vaan isnt the main character . All of the party members are the main characters, they have their own backstory, motives and character development AND just as much screen time as vaan . Thats what people get wrong about FFXII, its not a story about vaan being a brat, its a story about war and political issues and the part that the main characters have in these events . Plus, you gotta love balthier

Definitely one of my favorites in the series, and arguably my favorite, although 9 and 10 will always hold special places in my heart. I believe of all the Final Fantasies this one has the most Marketable story next to 7 and 9. I would love to write and direct a Trilogy of films based on this story. And yes I found Vaan to be a good character because he was so normal. I mean other than his fashion sense, he was just a dreamer who got caught up in larger world politics and I liked the perspective of seeing the story through his eyes as a viewer would if they had been transported into the story. This allowed for every other character in the party to have worth and each of them have value in their own way simply because Vaan is the POV character and the story is not being driven by him. Each character around Vaan is special. Basch the broken knight seeking to redeem himself, Fran the exile, Balthier the pirate captain and rogue, Penelo is his orphan best friend and love interest, and Ashe the Princess in exile that drives the plot. It all works so well because Vaan is the POV who happens to stumble into the conflict.
