Hey great video! You have summarized in a few minutes an enormous amount of work you must have put to get all these facts. The best mic review I have found in YouTube. Sincere congrats

Helpful thank you. The Rode NT5 has a nice sheen to the top end. The 2011C has a nice bit of low end. However that AT4081 ribbon mic was really generous sounding.

This video is the bomb! Thanks for the comparison!
Yes, the 2 mics I wrote down were also the Rode NT5 and the DPA 2011. Great ears hear alike.

Being able to hear your experimentation with different mics is an invaluable resource for a small church like ours. Thank you for the tips, ideas, and tests you have been doing. I am also considering using Barrier mics for congregation recording, have you played with these much?

DPA 2011 if long term install, but NT5 10 year warranty and price is just too good. Great review!

it's been a while but i ll still comment. Blindly i prefered the dpa 2011c for clarity and the audix cause it sounded warmer but not muddy it might not be a pure representation of the truth but it's really nice to hear even true bad speakers at home.

Thanks for this video! I was wondering for choosing rode nt5 or akg c1000s. Glad to hear that your fave is nt5 too!

Thanks for the video Steven,
You put much effort into sharing your knowledge.
I suspect the Youtube audio compression destroyed much of our ability to hear the differences on this end as the viewers... or maybe it is my hearing :-(
The mics tended to sound pretty similar on my Beyerdynamic 990 Pro's.

As soon as I heard the DPA, I got (predictably) happy. If I were to buy a pair, however, I'd go with the Røde. Bang-for-the-buck-wise, it's to good to ignore.

The NT5 was my favorite in the first video (not knowing your preference).... and remains my mic of choice after watching video 2. However, fyi, my second choice was the AT Ribbon mic. Great demo and thanks. I am now looking at a matched pair of the NT5s. However, I would be curious if you have heard the Rode stereo NT4 and your opinion...

Hello ! Thank you for this super video!!
How many mics I have to setup in a 20-people-choir's live performance ? For example I have NT5, but how many?

Hi Stephen and others ... I have referenced so many videos from the ballast media channel and have learned so much from them. Great work! I run sound for a very small Church with not much finance to spare for sound systems. We are trying to use the Behringer C2 at the moment to mic our choir. As you know these are entry level matched pair. My question is - Are the gain structures on these mics also supposed to be matched? When I tested out units recently I found that 1 of the mics was working fine at around a quarter of the trim knob but the other one had to be cranked up to more than half and still didn't respond well to the same sound sources. I am wondering if 1 of these units is faulty. Can you or anyone help me understand this? Thanks.

Since you are professional sound. can you help me out this situation. we rent the church for Mass and we are not be able to connect directly to church sound system. we have to use one of the mic lines going to their mixer. we have to face to problem is the feedback speaker above our head around 8ft. we using 5 Audio Technica AT853a. two of five mics ringing alot( closest to feedback speaker). I can't push enough gain so sound very thin. I'm looking for different mic so can reduce feedback and I consider Rode NT5. do you think NT5 will help me solve ringing noise or get better quality sound? thanks a lot.

Thanks for the video. If I need to record a piano do you think the rode still will be better than the shure sm 81?

What do you think about trying shotgun mics from up high 35-40 above and 30-40 away from the choir?
