With Intel's Lunar Lake, AMD's Strixpoint, and Qualcomm's Snapdragon silicon, you have access to three equally good CPU platforms for super mobile laptops for the first time in a very long time.
But which one is the best? Well, as always, that question might not have an answer ...

I missed the time when the sweet spot for a laptop is $1000 ~ $1100

TLDR:
If you want good raw performance, require a broad enough application support, and do gaming, get AMD.
If you want high battery life and efficiency, and require the broadest application support, or light gaming, get Intel.
If you want a mix of good performance and efficiency, and don't mind the limited application support, get Qualcomm.

Id take intel right now because efficiency, low noise and heat output is what I care most in a laptop. Great video!

First I want to thank you for all the great info you put out and I hope you will read this one as well, it is kind of a rant so thank you!

I think as reviewers in 2024-2025, you guys should be way more critical as prices go up but innovation goes down.

While Apple keeps innovating (especially where it matters), and using haptic trackpads for OVER TEN years, we still get those horrible, rattly (plastic) cheap trackpads from others. And this while they ALL do have access to haptic ones! @Sensel being one of them!

Please, I ask of you to protect our consumer needs and it doesn't have to be a bad standard because they all do it. 1000+ retail USD HAS to have haptics!

Not to mention most people use laptops casually and use the trackpad, and there simply is no excuse to have bad input devices at 1000 USD/EUR and above. When you think about this, don't you think its just unacceptable?

I can get a Macbook Air for less than 1000 euros and get great input feel, great battery, no heat and excellent performance from M1 to M3. Its just sad because I have no use for a Macbook. I need a high quality casual laptop with great input. Sadly there is no laptop that ticks all boxes, only apple ones do.

I just picked up an open box Asus Zenbook S 16 for $998 from Bestbuy. Its in perfection condition. Sure there is some fan noise and some heat, but for this price I love it. I upgrade from a HP Envy 360m6 from 2015. This Zenbook is a smaller chasis yet larger display. Pretty amazing.

I think the main battery difference might be the IPS panel in the lunar lake laptop

Saves a ton of battery and I prefer it over OLED

Sadly the ideapad pro 5 only has OLED currently

What does the PWM actually mean when comparing laptops? Is it something to take into account and how high should te number be? I can't find many reliable sources about PWM flickering on Oled displays.

For me, the Intel Lunar Lake version for me. I don't need a super powerful CPU. One with a Cinebench R24 multi-core score of 500+ is good enough for my professional needs. I prefer good single core CPU performance, a good iGPU for light gaming, good battery life, and full X86 software compatibility.

I was ready to give up on Intel CPU based laptops, but Intel Lunar Lake won me back. Hopefully, Intel executives keep it up.

Is there a reason why you didn’t test the 258V with 32 GB of ram? Probably a better comparison than the 16GB 256V….

Is it true that the slim 7x pro has a screen issue?
I saw a review talking about dark screen on booting.
I want to get the slim pro 7x

Any advice for me 🙏

In terms of single core they all deliver similar performance, but everyone of them have a disadvantage in different area, intel lacks in multi core, AMD lacks in battery life, Qualcomm lacks in GPU and software support.
Choosing between them really depends on consumer needs and what he finds the less important thing to compromise.

Alex i did observe better battery life by upto 1-2 hrs on AMD hawk point after disabling Lenovo power monitor and intelligent cooling boost tasks in task scheduler.
I'm unsure why Lenovo uses agressive boost clocks on battery like Intel version killing battery life on AMD. Did the ARM version also see better battery life after disabling those tasks? Have been seeing similar issues with ThinkPad AMD since 3-4 generations

Seem to be missing the best mobile chip right now, the M4. It's mobile and faster than any non-mobile chip as well. Of course the downsides are if you don't want to use MacOS or pay $1500 for a laptop.

@notebookcheckreviews can you be very loud about the problem that not even ultra high end $3000+ windows laptops still don't use haptic touchpads so that there is a slight chance manufacturers notice this problem. It's almost 2025 and it's like middle ages in windows laptops.

No one in their right mind would play games with Ultra settings on these laptops. I have The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 with Intel inside and I play games mostly on low to medium at 1080P and whenever there is an option for xess, enabled. Some games like Forza Horizon 5 and Overwatch 2, can be played with High settings at 1080p and xess. The FPS to these games is well above 60.
The major downside with Intels graphics is its slow update rate to xess. The last update to xess was released over six months ago, so be aware if you care for gaming.

Games for me is just a plus. I enjoy the sleek design with insane battery performance and very good performance in general, for what it is.
