I remember disabling FSO for java.exe (where minecraft runs) and doing that gave me a juicy 10% performance increase on unlocked FPS and in capped reduced resource usage, so, depending on the game, it helps a lot
FSE has better latency and manages GPU usage better so it is better to disable FSO on GPU limited situations
