As a neurodivergent child going to school far from home, Misan Harriman found solace in the internet -- "an endless library of the extraordinary," as he calls it. In this powerful talk, he shares his journey as a self-taught photographer of extraordinary range, from covering the greatest civil rights movements of our lifetimes to becoming the first Black man to shoot a cover for British Vogue. A reminder that each one of us can find our own ways to create a better world for all.

Images convey the beauty of how things are and what they're genuinely meant for in this world. Some take these photographs for granted, but they're essentially pieces of artifacts we must yearn to preserve for a long period of time.

This a good reminder that we all have the potential to make the world better in our own unique ways.

Misan Harriman is a true definition of an artist. He isn't just an excellent photographer but an extraordinary storyteller. How he made the connection between the image of Mrs King, taken by the first black man to win Pulitzer for photography, and that of King III tweeting his work, and finally how he became the first black man to shoot the British Vague is just massively extraordinary! ❤

Harriman’s talk is a reminder that images have the power to move us, to inspire us, and to change the world. The photographer’s role is not just to capture what is in front of the lens, but to use their unique perspective and vision to create something that speaks to the viewer on a deeper level. Harriman’s work is a beautiful example of this, and his TED Talk is well worth watching for anyone interested in the power of images and the creative mind behind them.

Profound and deep ! thank you and indeed.. anyone talking to a ceo or someone that can influence a big company that is plundering Africa ( or any country) for their own riches without giving anything back, should indeed show them the images. And i do agree with you on a lot yet.. people maybe going true troubling /life lesson things but... life it self and earth are still beautiful <3 Even when you are not famous l, living humble, home bounded by chronicle illness ;) with the whole world at my hand with the internet (indeed what a blessing it is)

Ending racism is one thing but stereotyping one race as racist due to past crimes then labelling them RACIST & GUILTY by default is also RACIST.

When will people ever learn that COLOUR is just skin deep ?

Thank you so much Misan. It has indeed open our eyes to let us know the work we need to do. Thank you so much for always sharing your love story with your wife. Hmmmm the gift of the internet. Special shout out to your daughter. Glad that the world discovered you. The first black man to shoot any cover for British vogue. Dear Misan more Grace. As much as the racists may come, they won’t ever see you. Your lenses are always where voices ought to be lifted. God bless you

Why, is it we never hear about 'Racism in Africa ' for example ? Oh, that's right, probably not a money spinner! But being a "race hustler" ( term defined by esteemed Professor Thomas Sowell) can really bring in the coin !

"Ethnic pygmy populations in Central Africa suffer from racialized discrimination from Bantu peoples. Pygmies and Bantus differ physically and genetically due to long lasting evolutionary segregation until the Bantu expansion brought them back into close contact. Pygmies have been targeted for slavery by Bantu populations continuing into the modern age. They are frequently ostracized from participation into the wider society in the various African countries that they live in and are seen as untouchables. Racially-motivated attacks occur on Pygmies including rape and cannibalization." Just one of many African countries that practise"racism " in the present day!

Of course you make it about Saint Fentanyl. Dude was a robber who died of a drug overdose and so many Black people praise him for it, I don't get it.

Labelling a "British" retailer racist 😁 because he displayed "characters" working on tobacco plantation.
You should be ashamed " I would certainly not have removed it.

Why couln't he help the children where he lives instead of buying plane tickets? He thinks there is an environmental crisis so he buys a plane ticket. Seems like he just wants the image of being a caring person.

I’ll answer it, “Because racism originates from survival and prejudices/stereotypes help us detect patterns around us increasing our probability of survival. Noticing skin color and forming judgements is a natural tendency of the human psyche.” That is why ending racism is a debate.
