I had this as a teenager. I woke up one morning at like 1am with bad stomach pain and swollen testicles. Woke up my mom and she gave me some pepto bismol and told me to back to bed and she’d take me to the doctor in the morning. I tried to go back to sleep but threw up the medication a few minutes after taking it. Woke my mom up again and she took me the children’s hospital. They performed emergency surgery and saved both my testicles. The doctor who performed the surgery ripped into my mom and told us that if she had waited until the morning to take me to the hospital I would have for sure lost both testicles and potentially died.

It is called a testicular torsion and yes it does happen. I saw this as a ER nurse a few times. Women also can get an ovarian torsion as well it is diagnosed by ultrasound.

I had a little pain and was worried it could be testicular torsion. I went to my doctor like three times then to a urologist and he was like "no, if you had that, you would be screaming right now". I was like phew. Good.

It was Stage IV kidney cancer.

When I was 16 I had an ovarian cyst rupture, which can lead to ovarian torsion. I spent an entire day in the hospital. The pain is out of this world. When my dad questioned the nurse about how much pain I (“really”)was in, she looked him hard in the eye and said “testicular torsion” and then turned back to me.

I’d never seen a man shrink on his seat before.

This happened to my husband before I knew him they were so close to being both done. He had a surgery that they stitched them separately to the bag. More than 30 years later the scars are still very visible and still very sensitive as they can’t retract to keep themselves safe like a regular guy. Apparently the most painful thing he’s ever experienced. Cheers 🇦🇺

Testicular torsion is a nightmare. My friend almost lost his testicle to it.

I had this at 15. It was pretty horrific. The doctor came out to me and said get to A&E immediately, I had had it for a couple of hours by this point. The surgical team took me out of the car, onto a gurney and the last I heard as they knocked me out going into reception was, " don't worry, we can do wonderful things with prosthetics". 25 years later another GP casually asked how I got on with hormone treatments when my testicles were removed. They weren't! Happy to say my balls are my own, my wife is expecting, and yes, it's mine.
