Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi says Republican leadership has chosen to "overlook" and "ignore" social media posts by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Before she joined Congress this month, Greene supported Facebook posts that advocated violence against leading Democrats and the FBI. While some Republicans are now condemning the activity, it's hardly a surprise. Facebook posts surfaced last year showing she'd expressed racist, anti-Semitic and anti-Muslim views. Top Republicans denounced her at the time. But the opposition faded when she won a seat in Congress. The GOP has largely embraced Greene lately, making it harder to distance from her now, especially when many of her views were already well known.
Citing Congressional security concerns, Pelosi said the "enemy is within the House of Representatives." When asked to explain her remarks Pelosi said, "it means that we have members of Congress who want to bring guns on the floor and have threatened violence on other members of Congress."
At a news conference Thursday, Pelosi also said that Democrats expect to pass a COVID relief package, hopefully with the help of Republicans, but won't rule out using reconciliation to pass with a simple majority vote.
