The History of common priests against the horrors of slavery is seriously underrated. I remember the jesuits in the jungles and sertões of South America, struggling against bandeirantes and castelhanos to protect indians in missões (or missiones). In Minas Gerais, many baroque churches from the XVIIIth Century still have secret passages behind the altars leading to escape tunnels used by fleeing slaves.

Exactly matches how God dealt with slavery in the OT, he made slow improvements to a group of people so accustomed to it

People forget, or were never told, but Christian men ended slavery as it is described here.
They went to sea and gave their lives by the thousands to free humanity from slavery.
Followers of Christ.

Claver gave JESUS to the American African Peoples (those with slave ancestors) ! Interesting how the Africans who come here from Africa are mostly CATHOLIC!!, yet they did not come from being slaves, and the ones who were generated from slaves sent to America, they mostly are Protestant. I pray for the intersession of St Peter Claver to give them Catholicism ! ❤

Pedro Claver. He appears as one of three figures sculpted in the saint place of Azpeitia, the home city of Saint Ignatius gathered with Saint Francisco Javier and, of course, Saint Francisco of Borja. They should be four.

Jesus is his model. He is imitating Christ. This is how Jesus wants us to be, as children of the Father.

I dont think people, especially in America, really realize that things like this are what abolished chattel slavery this birthed abolitionist movements, but it could not have been done by abolition alone. Slavery even chattel slavery still exists today and will until the end of time sadly

Would you have had to make progress in bits and pieces if the old testament didnt specifically condone slavery?

"Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves. You may also buy some of the temporary residents living among you and members of their clans born in your country, and they will become your property. You can bequeath them to your children as inherited property and can make them slaves for life"

Thats leviticus, thats scripture, that was justification for it from god himself. How do you ignore that?

Yes slavery was old, but racial slavery was the worst. In portraying africans as subhuman, their humanity disappears. His whole delivery is tone deaf. As if it was "just good business."

Kinda weird that he can say "do not murder" and "do not mix fabrics" but he couldnt say "do not own people as property" in fact his father told moses to buy slaves from the heathen around them. And own them as property forever.
