That yo-yo is not supposed to be attached to the string. It’s a different style of yo-yoing (4a) where you throw it up and catch it on the string. It’s not going to work well attached to the string since it’s not designed for it. It’s a strange feeling when you aren’t used to it but when you get used to the feeling it starts to get easier.

The yo-yo is meant to be used with the string detached

It’s an off-string Yoyo which means you can play with it while the string is not connected

This is a special type of yo-yo called an off string Yo-Yo. You are using it wrong so look up videos on how to set it up and how to play with it
