* Fanny's younger brother was Felix Mendelssohn, who regularly relied on her feedback on his works throughout their lives
* Fanny and Felix received much of their broad and cultured education directly from their parents and also tutors
* Both started composing and performing at a young age
* Fanny is reported to have performed 24 of Preludes from Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier by memory at the age of 12
* It is believed that Fanny's ability at the piano matched, if not surpassed, her brother's talent
* Fanny's father and society made it clear that women could not pursue careers as musicians
* Although she married and fell into the stereotypical domestic role, she continue to compose, producing more than 500 compositions including piano works, chamber music, songs, and works for choir
* In 1831 Fanny revived her family's tradition of holding musical salons in their home
* Fanny did live to see some of her works published
