When I worked at Casey’s general store, we sold pizza by the slice. The manager said it cost the store $1.80 to make a large pizza and if we sold one slice at $2.49 the store would make a profit for the entire pizza.

pizza costs almost nothing to make.
The place I work at gets 50lb bags of flour for like $20 a bag and that one bag easily makes more than 3x the cost in profit, even adding the cheese and other toppings it's still a huge profit.

You're forgetting that many of them in nyc also had favorable leases that lasted for a long time. But now that many of those leases ended, we're seeing the dollar pizzas closing down in droves.

Used to know a kid that sorta did this, he'd buy cheap pizzas and sneak them into school, especially at like football games but just during normal school too and sell it for 1-2 dollars a slice. It was almost a year before they caught him, someone snitched on him. I dont actually eat pizza so no idea if it was worth it or even what kind but the dude had to have made bank.

Anyone who works in any eatery knows, they make bank on drinks. People hate carrying water/drinks with them. You can slap a big markup on basic water/coffee/soda and people will willingly pay.

When I was kid, there were so many 99¢ slice shops, and a surprising portion of them were good. Like, really good. Like, “your favorite neighborhood pizzeria”-level good. (I really miss those days.)

Average cost of a pizza pie to the owner is about less then 5 dollars. the dollar pizza stores make money on the drink and small ticket items. the large amount of people and flow of inventory they can buy things in bulk and never have overstock.

A whole pizza costing eight dollars is NOT standard. This guy must either live under a rock or is so rich that he doesn't even know current prices of anything.

I will say, a buck a slice tends to still be fairly alright and (as someone who wasnt born in north America but lives there now) tends to be just the right amount of food for me. So a single dollar (or two up in the great white north) is a savage deal

You guys cant think that a single slice costs more than a dollar 😂

One 15 inch Margarita(sauce & cheese) pizza from Dominos is 23 dollars in Iceland. If you want to order a pizza with some ingredients the price will go up to 32-39 dollars for the pie.

The cost of pizza is generally low. They're margin is lower than other businesses with higher margins because of higher prices.
