So I was rereading this issue to try to find J. Hickman's page and OF COURSE he wrote a page with Apocalypse waking up the first 4 Horsemen... you know, just as it's written in HoX/PoX... the madman, giving hints on his story even in Marvel Comics #1000.

It being #1000 when there's not really a #999 is my biggest annoyance, and whether it's jumping on the Detective and Action 1000's train or not it's irritating. If it had a different title I'd have liked it 1% more. Otherwise I enjoyed reading it, so I'm happy. I didn't like paying for it, but I don't like paying for anything at all.

Personally, I would've appreciated more continuity between the non-Ewing pieces, each team having one page to both contribute to the ongoing story and give the reader an overview of who the character or characters are. A tall order, I know, but as it was it came across more as a Ewing story spaced out with a bunch of nice-looking filler, some successful, some kind of meh. It brought up for me, though, how the art of condensed/compressed storytelling, of packing as much as you can into a limited number of panels and pages, has fallen by the wayside these days with everything warranting an extended storyline. That said, man, the George Perez page was like back to the '70s with the sheer amount of design going on, same with Steve Rude and Javier Rodriguez. And my goodness, the Slott/Martin Spidey page? So simple, and yet so effectively telling a story and establishing the characters in a single frigging page—THAT’S what comics is about!

I had a hard time deciding between the Daredevil or Brooks 40's variant covers and ended up getting the Brooks. Looking forward to the stories. Thanks for the great content, keep up the good work.

The thing I was most happy to see here was the Night Raven page written in prose. Dad bought the UK comics he appeared in and I'd read the Night Raven passages, in prose, as a little kid over and over. Night Raven is such a forgotten character and his inclusion made me smile.

I got to go to my local comic shop and at least see a hard copy. The Black Mask thing was interesting, but I felt that all the one page things were put in at such a degree that Mr. Ewing's stories were to far apart. What did you all think?
