If you remember in the mid of the series Drogon disappeared, he went to ancient Valeria, he was also spotted flying by Jorah mormont and the Tyrion lannister in Valeria when they were escaping on a small boat! So yes Drogon took her there because he explored Valeria and he got to know that magical place can bring her back from death.
