Показать описание
This all purpose stonefly nymph is loosely based on the Montana Stone, but uses a yarn for the body, thorax and wingcase instead of chenille. Still an easy tie and can be tied in a variety of colors for many different species.

Hook: #8-14 long shank
Thread: Black, brown or to match the body
Tail: Grizzly hackle fibers
Body: Yarn, any natural color
Thorax: Grizzly hackle, palmered

I love how super simple this is. Tie some stuff for friends and you could tie up a lot of these in no time. Perfect!! 👍👍

Good morning Matt☕️☕️
Watching the deer having coffee and watching you. What could be better on a Sunday morning. Really nice bug, I have been twisting up some Pat’s Rubber Legs. And working on getting a crawfish pattern that I like and don’t mind losing 🤣
Thanks for all your doing to help us mortals.😉

Morning Matt. Thank you for the share. I don't tie stone flies. I will now. Looks simple and effective.

Another nice on Matt. Couldn't get any more simple and I can see some color variations. The water is dead flat down here at Lake Okeechobee so it's time to go fishing. Keep the good stuff coming.

Saved and now that it’s snowing in Wyoming, I’ll sit in front of the fire and tie a dozen of this stonefly. Then wait for spring and try the fly on panfish in Nebraska.
Thank you Matt, and Happy Holidays to you.

Good morning Matt. Hope your weekend has gone well. I like how this one is tied. Not difficult and it looks like it will fish well. I have some yarn that’s mottled greens and black. I think I’ll try tying it with that as well. Take care Matt. Have a great week.

Thanks, Matt. That gives me some ideas on some pan fish flies

Guessing brown/white mixed thread could work as well? Northern Utah I see alot of that color. By the way, I seen some difficult ways of making this. I'm going to start tying in this pattern. Thanks for simplifying this for me. And also I appreciate these opportunities to win a prize. So thanks Matt!

Kind of reminds me a of a clouser swimming nymph. I love the idea of using yarn though. Simplistic and traditional.

Simple is good, especially when using heavily weighted flies. You can lose a bunch of them on the bottom. Before weighted beads and hooks designed for them became widely available, stonefly users would tie 1 to 3 strands of lead wire on top and parallel to the hook shank, and then wrap wire around the thorax area. You then tie the body and legs upside down. The weight on top of the hook forces the hook to turn over, so the hook rides point up by the time by the time it gets near the bottom. This way of tying the weight will save a lot of flies when fishing over rocky or wood strewn bottoms.

Good beginner tie but don’t forget the veteran Tyler..I have always tied AP nymphs with a minimum amount of material and time.if you tie a lot, thry go quickand the lack off time to tieand you can kill a xomparmenrt or box very quickly, just change colors and sizes.I intentionally tie them ugly and crippled to add to my arseneljust get it to the strike zone .They catch so many fish you may loose count.

Hi Matt, I like that a lot. When you use yarn, do you me knitting yarn or yarn that are on fly fishing spools?

Would you have some advice for a new tier? I've been watching your videos and think you do an excellent job of explaining what the flies should look like. But is there any books that you can recommend for a newbie?
