How To: Protect a Hardcover Dust Jacket

[Product Description Below! :D] There is nothing worse for a book lover than seeing the covers to their favorite books get damaged, torn, creased or stained (or repackaged, but that's another thing) Well, that and being told you can only buy ONE book in a bookstore. Using a clear protective cover that many—if not all, libraries and book collectors use—you can help deter these things from happening while still keeping the beauty of the artwork visible and extending the book's shelf life. It does take some practice to get the hang of! Try it out on a few books you wouldn't mind getting just a little bent or creased. Thank you so much for watching and subscribing!! :D

I used size 24x12 (Brodart Advantage Book Jacket Covers)
*Make sure they say "Clear" if you would like that option.
**I'm not affiliated with Brodart in any way.
*** I ordered 25 sheets (the minimum order available) at first to try it out, you may want to do the same.

A lot of the comments here have some insightful tips and recommendations for securing the jacket to the book. (I used regular translucent tape which I learned can actually harm the books later on) Take a look at some of the comments to ensure your beloved treasures are protected as safely and damage-free as possible!

Just bought a first edition book from the Little House on the Prairie series from 1940 with the original dust jacket. Bought a book cover from Brodart but had no idea how to do it. This video was a lifesaver! Thank you!

It's heaven! Just discovered it a while back after asking a librarian what they use! Thank you so much, Sue! :D

That's amazing. We should totally try this. We love library books because it is hard to rip the dust jacket. Now we would be able to do it with our own books.

This is pretty awesome!  You're the first hit on Google when I typed in "how do I protect my dust jacket", and EXACTLY what I wanted to find.  Keep up the good work!

Thanks for sharing this video! I went ahead and ordered the 24x12 covers for my dust jackets and they do the job. Your video was also helpful as well on applying them.

I used to use this stuff at work. I wrapped a lot of the covers on my Titanic books. Nice instructional video!

Woah, this is actually the first time that I've ever seen someone put a plastic covering over the jacket of a book! I must not live under a rock LOL That's really neat, I'll have to try it someday.

They're heaven!! haha. Me either! I've look everywhere for them in stores and nothing, so I had to order them online from Brodart (they have a TON of other library supplies too), there's a link to their website in the description box. I know YT is very cautious with links in comments! haha. They're pretty decently prices, but the shipping gets ya! Mine came in a flat box about the length of them.

Excellent informative video. Renewing my love for great books and wish to fully protect my investment. Often the dust jacket is the most beautiful visual part of the books. Most times when I buy a used book I am only interested if they have a dust jacket.  Do you restore historic books? I have several 1800's Fire Department Of New York daily log books and have one complete but mostly detached from it's spine. Thanks for the videos posted !
