Miter Saw Dust Collection

In this video we are going to try to solve miter saw dust collection by increasing our air flow from the dust collector as well as try to gather the dust closer to the actual cut.

*This is designed to only work with 90° cuts.

Love the end result! I'm a dust collection maniac, so I'll impart a little wisdom. Craft your initial designs in cardboard using foil tape. It's a huge time saver, it saves on material cost, it's just a superior approach to creating the end templates for the winning design!

I believe that making an initial non-through cut from back to front is preferred as it allows the sawdust a channel to escape through when making your final cut, this should also help with directing the sawdust.

I would think, by now, manufacturers could do a better job with their availabe money and CAD drawings to R&D this issue. Of coarse they would have to even care about it to begin with, which obviously this does not appear to be a priority. The few manufacturers that attempt to tackle the problem seem to always fall short.
We can put a person into outer space, but we cannot design built in dust collection created by a chop saw at the product manufacture level.
You are takeing an engineering approach, that not many do, to the age old problem.

after watching your miter saw dust collector tool a couple times, I decided to make one for my miter saw. After I made it following your instructions it capture's about 95% of the dust when cutting. I had my miter saw on wheels stuffed back in the corner of the shop because it made a big mess all over. With your help now I'll be using it more. Thanks again for your video and ideas !!!
