Very nice, Ryan! A very good review, for sure. The Milwaukee Road had some great steam locomotives and passenger trains. My dad rode them, when they were new and had some great stories about them. I had to look up the horn situation. I found no reference to a steam whistle, in any publication. Putting one under the cab would have really been too loud for the crew and underneath the pilot would have restricted the sound's projection. Either placement would have made hearing it fairly difficult at higher speeds. I'm not sure of the sound level requirements back then, but these days it is 100 db at 300 feet. Either way, an excellent review and video, as always.

Very nice locomotive Ryan. I’m envious. This is one I was hoping to see in the 2024 catalog. But the price point and the large radius curves counted me out. Are you going to the Madcity train show in Madison next month? If so maybe we can meet up. Enjoyed watching the train running on this video. Ken

The train was the Hiawatha, not the locomotive.
That's certainly not a Vanderbilt tender, which has a cylindrical water tank.
The 4-wheel tender truck in the rear carries less weight than the 6-wheel truck in the front. Axle loading should be the same.
Steam whistle would be directly connected to the top of the boiler controlled by a cord.
Canadian Pacific had 4-4-2 "Jubilee" locos which topped 112 mph.
The radio chatter is fantasy. Trains didn't have radios in those days, and train movements were by train order, time tables and signaling, not by CTC dispatchers which didn't come along until the 1950s.

I no idea that it was built in Schenectady ….all that’s left of ALCO is nothing… there is now a casino where great engines were one time built ….. not even a museum …shameful
