Using reference mixes is the most important thing when mixing low end in home studios💯

This man is a legend and definitely knows what he is talking about. Purely on point! I've done many times this mistake - I've boosted low lows so much, that it even destroyed my dads preamp on home audio system (upsyy!!!) and yes, in car those low sounds monstrous, making all car shake, but it does sound ok on my studio end, so, I've guess my audio system on which I do mixes do not purely reproduce those lows enough, so i need to take this with a pinch of salt and boost lows more gently, or, as Warren said, don't boost at all if you cant actually hear it.

This was a main issue of mine for years - I had no idea why either 😊👍

Really great advice. Took me years to understand this

While it was a radio documentary assignment in college, I mixed it with a bad cold, and that definitely affected my hearing.
When I got it back & listened to it after recovering from the cold some levels were way off.
Same idea here
I did have a deadline, but if you don’t have one-wait until you can hear & use the advice given here

I go back and forth between my monitors and headphones when mixing just to avoid these type of issues. It's a balancing act and the more perspectives you can get, the better your mix will translate on other systems.

I use various playback systems. My Kali LP6s are my main monitors and then I have my little Edirol MA-15Ds. I also listen on my home stereo, a good one, my Sennhieser HD280 Pro closed back headphones and my car stereo. It takes time but it's worth it! My mixes sound equally bad on everything! That's when I know I've got it right!

Another aspect I always remember to be careful with is boosting 20kHz once you reached 40 or 50... - just modify what one can actually hear is a good approach!

Hi Warren can you recommend some head phones? I use even h3 noise cancelling head phones

An example of this is Wild Heart by Bleachers. Sounds great on headphones and small speakers but it’s a bit messy on works large speaker.

Hmm.. You are talking about close back headphones. Is it better to use close back than open headphones? Is it better to choose first ones?

Here's the gist of my 😂 really long story. I thought the problem was my speakers😵, then maybe my headphones😫, CUZ... i didn't understand room treatment😬. After beating my head against the wall (figuratively), I finally 👀watched as many videos as i could about room treatment for home theatres, and what materials they used, and how they focused sound to specific listening points in a room.🤔 Then i finally built a 7 foot by 8 foot-ish "booth" in the corner of my apartment where my monitoring speakers sound very similar to when im wearing headphones. So during the day i can work without headphones, and at night i wear headphones and i hear all the frequencies both ways.

I burn a rough mix & listen to it through the big stereo (or the old ghetto basher, remember those ha!) then go back & tweak the low ends if they need it.

I found a thing from several years back I was trying to fix from tape and it kind of made the whole background muddy.

I use my headphones and an analyzer for the subs.

Is this why most of todays music sounds like I have 2 fat asses sitting on my shoulders farting in my ears?

Has anyone else noticed that people who speak in an English accent say “can” perfect normal, but they pronounce “can’t” as “cont”? It drives me crazy, you’re literally just adding a “T” at the end, no reason to use an entirely different vowel sound.

cant you just make the mastering guy fix it???? sigh...
