If doing it with just water rather than mediums, make sure there's very little on your brush. Essentially you're trying to apply it and have it instantly dry in place, otherwise it will behave like the tinted water it is and pool in ways you may not want.

I've had issues when water thinning that the surface tension of the water is too great. Any other mini painters I've spoken to have not had that issue. Have you ever had water-thinned glaze bead up on a model?
