How to Stop Being Scared, and Freakin' Send it!

Fear can be a real limiting factor, especially when you're fresh off an injury with no confidence. Mountain biking can be scary when you're unsure of your abilities! I only started walking on my own in February, and now I'm ready to hit the line we built last year. It's technical, challenging, and pretty high risk. Today I'll show you how I work through the mental challenges required to safely attempt these mountain bike features.

Seth is like “don’t do it cuz your friend says send it”

Me: remembers Super Dave on the snake pit skinny when Kevin said “just bunny hop it”

6:18 I totally forgot about the berm peak iron brand until I saw it on the edge of the pucker pad. It’d be cool to see a small detail like that throughout berm park as well.

Hey Seth, I just wanted to say that your videos have really helped me while I've been off the bike. Last year, the doctors found a bone tumor in my calcaneus (heel bone) which left me unable to walk. After getting it scraped out and filled in with bone graft I'm currently 6 weeks into a 9 month recovery.

Thankfully, the pathology report came back as non-cancerous, and your video's have given me hope/motivation to never give up on my ultimate goal of getting back on the bike again. I've got a long road ahead and I've been rooting for you every step of the way! Thank you.

“Just because your friend says Send it is not a reason to do it”. Words of wisdom.

Great job Seth. Congratulations Kevin. I have a friend like Kevin that I have known for close to 40 years and I learned early on that it wasn’t always the best thing to listen to his tidbits of wisdom, probably why I am still alive now. However, I also wouldn’t have done so many different things if it wasn’t for his encouragement. Thanks for the video.

Had my first big crash at Amelia Earhart Park about 7 years ago. Before that, I used to do 3 laps at Amelia and drive to VK and do 4 laps at least 4-5 times a week. Took 8 months to rehab and got back on the trails. Road Amelia at my race pace and made it past the turn, only to take a spill on the very next turn after. Took all my confidence away, didn't ride for years. I am now finally back to riding 4-5 times a week, but this time building up to it slowly. Doing on average 4 miles a day, trying to regain my confidence to attack features and build up my speed again. Glad I found your channel recently, as it's really helping me get back into the grind.

I wish I had a friend like Kevin when I was coming back from my injury. The only voices in my ear were those of the reckless and those of the faithless. It took me a good long while to find my groove with no real friends to help me gain my confidence back.

I broke my foot last year riding, re gaining my confidence back on the bike took me a long time.. But now I'm back riding better then before the injury ! all I say to people going through similar things is trust the process, your Drs and believe in yourself. you got this :)

I appreciate you acknowledging that confidence doesn't come from nowhere. I'm new to mountain biking and while I try to hit everything with confidence, I agree it is important to build that confidence through being prepared. I maintain that line of thinking through all my riding and its given me the chance to ride some stuff I never would have without the proper preparation.

Kevin! The best sidekick everyone can have! Congrats Kevin!

Also, great video Seth. I did a similar injury in October 2019 and it was a long recovery. I think what helped me build confidence was having support to get back on the bike. I've had a lot of injuries, so support has been the biggest booster for me.

I just got back from an injury and what helped for me was table tops and you gradually increase your speed until you can clear, repeat several times then do jumps like step ups then you can get back into gaps and stuff. Hope this is helpful 🤟
