The Origins of Hermeticism? Petosiris, High Priest of Thoth

Is a nearly forgotten tomb part of the puzzle of the origins of Hermeticism. In central Egypt, the tomb of a family of Thoth High Priests has stood for over 2000 years. It's priest-builder was Petosiris, high priest of Thoth, during the transition to Ptolemaic rule. The tomb itself is strange: Greek-style art adorns the walls, it's designed more like a temple than a tomb and the Hieroglyphic inscriptions urge the reader to "Follow the Way of the God" through moral justice and reverence to the God. Having visited this tomb on a recent trip, I've come to believe it's an important part of the puzzle of the origins of Hermeticism. Come learn why!

The pictures of Petosiris' tomb in the desert brings Ozymandias to mind.
"I met a traveller from an antique land... The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

Edit: Thank you for what you do. Coming here after the news of the days is like drinking cool water on a hot day.

You seem changed from your trip - energized and refreshed. It's nice to see someone who is in a line of work that suits them, and it's even nicer to see them shift into a higher gear. Well done.

I love it that on special occasions Dr. Sledge shares his personal theories, without further academic consensus. He’s entitled given the depth of his knowledge. This episode was excellent!

Dr. Sledge, your intellectual honesty is really admirable. I'm in a completely different field (STEM), but you've become my role model for everything a public facing academic should be. I love the channel, congratulations on your amazing work.

Thank you! That was a fascinating peek into proto-Hermetic history and literature! It would be great to get the text from the Petosiris family tomb in English someday!

Certainly no need to apologize for "burdening us" with your scholarly investigations. Nonsense! We're all here for it, I'm sure, and I for one am fascinated by your work on this topic. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to hearing more when you make your next breakthrough!
