62mph on those wheels deserves a Darwin award

Problem is that 62mph on a motorbike in full gear and having a crash can mean death.
These go 62mph and people ride round with a bicycle helmet on

Yes officer its an AK47, but I have this remote...

That remote doesn’t make it street legal at all. It still sustains wattage over 250w even if the speed limit is limited to 15mph. Having the ability to derestrict it with the remote also makes it illegal. You’ve got a throttle on an e-bike clearly made after 2016 so that’s another reason, You’re not only bad at giving this sort of advice, you’re pretty much the worst. There isn’t a grey area at all, there’s just twits getting away with it…. Until you do actually get caught, the points for no insurance and according to license, tax etc would see you banned and any say goodbye to affording insurance for a vehicle for 5 years after that.

You're living in a fantasy that bike is completely illegal.

Worked at a bike shop for a couple. The bottom line is that these are illegal as it goes over 15.5mph and has a throttle. Remote means nothing. Illegal all day long.

The law is

An electric bike that is faster than the above specifications, i.e. it provides assistance when travelling faster than 25kph (15.5mph) then it is classed as a moped or motorcycle in the eyes on the UK government. This means it must be registered, taxed, insured, and you must have a driving licence to ride one.

Nothing grey about it. You will find yourself at fault regardless of who did what in an accident.

62 miles an hour on those bearings is asking for it my guy!

The remote doesn't make it legal at all, its not governed, so it is illegal unless you have a full license, with insurance and number plates, the legality lies at the battery wattage and discharge, which governs the speed, not some useless remote.

Doesn’t make it legal unfortunately, the law changed in 2016, if your e-bike was made after 2016 it legally can not have a peddle-less throttle, it can only have a peddle assist motor, if it was made before 2016 then it can have a peddle-less throttle up to 15mph but most of those bikes are gone now, you can pick one up second hand but I would put much into it as the tech has moved on and getting parts for it is a nightmare.

There’s no grey area, It’s illegal!

That remote makes it even more illegal mate😂

It's illegal even if you don't use the pedal assist or throttle. The legal motor size in the UK is 250w. A bike that can do 60+ is going to be around 2000w. The moment that motor was attached to the wheel, it became illegal to ride in public.
