Emotiva XPA-11 Gen3 - Is This The Best Amplifier For Dolby Atmos?

This is a quick video about using an home theater receiver vs amplifier. There are certain power limitations to consider when using an AVR especially when using large floor speakers. If you want the absolute best sound you can get then you may want to consider buying a dedicated amplifier such as the Emotiva XPA-11 Gen3.

I love watching your videos. They are always clear, concise to the point and with very high production value. I wish more AA creators would focus on production value and really try to compete with others. One other thing, when I really want the straight information this is one of five channels that I turn to. You are up there with Linus tech tips IMO.

Great video Chris! I own this unit and another 3 channel unit to power my 7.2.4 system with a Marantz AV7705 Processor. It is unreal.

Totally agree with you bro added a Emotiva XPA 3 gen 3 to my Denon 4500 and yes it added something to my sound quality and my wife noticed but like you said she could care less, if we were only using the sound directly from the TV that's suitable to her... LOL

Separates is the way to go. Once I stopped buying receivers I realized it’s the best decision I’ve ever made for my HT. Besides, it’s a lot easier to just upgrade your pre-pro instead of having to replace your amplification components too. It’s a no- brainer.

I would agree that adding a power amp doesn’t necessarily mean your system can be louder but more dynamic. I have the A–700 - which is from the BASX series by emotiva - and I notice a difference in dynamics versus The built on amplifiers on my Denon X3600.

Do you feel like the side and back surrounds are underpowered? I have a similar 7.2.4 setup just swap 15s with 600ms.

This is probably one of the best explained video on external amplifiers I've seen on YT. Like you, I was confused by them for the longest. I'm looking at picking the 2 channel Emotiva XPA and a pair of RF-7 III's to replace my RP-8000F's. Rest of the setup is RP-504C, RP-402S x2, R-115SW x2, and an older Pioneer Elite receiver. I see that PB13 Ultra you added--must be a beast! Unfortunately I don't have a ballin ass dedicated man cave yet. Thanks for sharing.

Hey bro! Is there a difference between Monolith/Emotiva/Rotel looking something to beef up my BW

I own a Pioneer sc-LX901 receiver (145W/ch) and I bought an EMOTIVA 6 channel XPA amplifier after watching this video and some 140W/ch onwers praised the Emotiva SPA amp. I had quite high expectations. However, after installing the amplifier and comparing them for more than 2 hours, (both bi-amping Front & center) there was no difference - dynamics, clarity, details, and volume except sound color. The Pioneer is a D3 amp, so it's a little more vivid and bright, and the Emotiva is an AB amp so it's warmer and smoother. Both have great sound. I preferred the D3 amp sound more, so I returned the Emotiva.

Did you power any heights or surround speakers? Did you think the 65 watts are good enough for the rear, surround and height speakers? Am considering the XP11 and the Emotiva 11. I have SVS speakers, front, surround & heights.

Love your videos. Could you do a room tour of your current setup? I want to set my own home theatre up so would be helpful

Why didn't you discuss the Denon Atmos Configuration using the Amp?

I finally ordered my XPA-11 Gen3 due to your video. I heard of them before but I never paid too much attention on them. I upgraded my AV to a Marantz and came across information on the EPA-11 Gen3. After your video, I just hit the purchase button and I LOVE the way my set up sounds with all the upgrades!!! Thank you for the video!

I have a question....
Can we use a cheap avr and connect it with a good amp....Would the amp only amplify the sound from the receiver or the avr would give it's best quality (low thd value) and the amp would amplify it?

OR

The amp would just amplify the power or signal from avr. The quality still pretty much depends on the avr.

This was a good and interesting video. I have been through several generation of Denon (4802R, 4308ci and x7200wa) and always been happy. Have dual PSA subs and then Klipsch setup for 7.2.2. In my room the Denon;a have never worked hard, but I have always been enticed with idea of external AMP. This video has me more intrigued than ever. Thinking of Emotiva 7 channel with 2 channel BasX so I can have all channels with over 100 watts. Always struggled how if everything is calibrated how the amp can make a difference if the AVR is not working hard.
