Lifesaving Sport Manikin Carry Techniques

Показать описание
Some of the SAIT Trojans Lifesaving Club demonstrating various carrying techniques. Let me know in the comments if there is another technique you use! The more education on Lifesaving skills, the better Lifesavers/Athletes we will all be!
1. Alex/Backstroke- Typically taught to younger athletes starting out. With their face out of the water it is easier to breath. just a caution to not kick the manikin and watch the placement to the carrying hand (don't cover the mouth or neck)
2.Carys/1kick1pull- usually done with a whip kick when the athlete listens to what the coach asked them to do. But I would likely do a scissor kick too, because my whip kick is not strong :) Not many people have a strong enough kick to go fast with this technique.
3.Chaz/2kick1pull- Chaz has a great whipkick! When initiating the pull is when you should do a big kick. Overarm recovery uses a smaller/faster kick. This is Chaz's second time EVER carrying a manikin :) He is holding the head a little high out of the water. It is easier to carry if the manikin is horizontal in the water.
4.GiGi/Sidestroke-allows for easier breathing and a scissor kick if your whipkick is not strong.
5.Nick/Freestyle-I find that with fins you can stroke a little longer than the shorter/choppier stroke that is normally used in the manikin carry without fins. breathing should be done to the stroking side.
6.Gigi/One arm Butterfly-A good technique for swimmers with a good core development. Not usually done without fins.
7.Carys/Freestyle with angled manikin- a newer technique with the changes in rules awhile back. Can be a little tricky to make sure the manikin doesn't go past 90 degrees. But the way the manikin is, it is more streamlined and anchored closely to the body.
8.Audrey/Freestyle with a chin carry- Careful not to cover the mouth. Carrying higher on the back and not to the side makes the athlete/manikin more stream lined.
