The Carpenters Goodbye To Love Reaction

1. That was an OBOE. I know it was an OBOE. OBOE OBOE OBOE OBOE OBOE OBOE OBOE

Congrats to all the Diva Oboe players

2. Love Karen's use of Ritardando. In my humble opinion it makes a huge difference. The little details here and there really stand out to me and remind me of how specific musicians are with their music.

3, I don't like how the guitar sounds muffled. It totally makes sense that Richard got hate mail for that. It's def not Carpenteresque. If it was a normal guitar I can see how people could totally be ok with that.

Finally I'm going to branch out to more groups now. Any suggestions....I'm all ears people.

Goodbye to Love
Carpenters
I'll say goodbye to love
No one ever cared if I should live or die
Time and time again the chance for love has passed me by
And all I know of love
Is how to live without it
I just can't seem to find it
So I've made my mind up
I must live my life alone
And though it's not the easy way
I guess I've always known
I'd say goodbye to love
There are no tomorrows for this heart of mine
Surely time will lose these bitter memories
And I'll find that there is someone to believe in
And to live for something I could live for
All the years of useless search
Have finally reached an end
Loneliness and empty days will be my only friend
From this day love is forgotten
I'll go on as best I can
What lies in the future
Is a mystery to us all
No one can predict the wheel of fortune as it falls
There may come a time when I will see tha I've been wrong
But for now this is my song
And it's goodbye to love
I'll say goodbye to love

Regarding not liking the fuzz guitar:

"You're wrong, Jay."

--Richard Carpenter. 😁

Great reaction, this is definitely my favorite Carpenters song, I just love fuzz guitar solos and Karen's angelic voice.

FUZZ guitar...I could not imagine this song without it! Some things just “work” and it does for me! Have you heard Calling Occupants? I would love to see your reaction of that...and it also includes that FUZZ guitar...again...pure magic!!

Yay! Thank you for this! The solo is a fuzz guitar.😊 it is often said that the Carpenters were theinventors of the power ballads that were so prominent later in the 80s. They were the first to combine easy listening and rock together.
Personally I would love some Barbra Streisand reactions. She is a powerhouse vocalist😊

I have always loved this Karen’s voice, the beautiful lyrics, the harmonies. My favorite by them!

Richard Carpenter invented the power Ballad! Tony Peluso played the fuzz guitar solo to perfection.

Disagree it was a fuzz guitar and it was awesome. Why do the same thing over and over. Lame the guitar was awesome

Interesting you mention an instrument swap for the solo. Years ago I got my brother (who is a musician) to turn "Goodbye To Love" into a jazz ballad for a standards project (never completed) that I was working on. I wrote a 40s style intro verse for the beginning of the song, and my brother converted the fuzz guitar sections into jazz piano solos...making the song sound perhaps somewhat as it might have had it actually appeared in that old Bing Crosby movie where Richard heard the title...

Try the Beach Boys. Start with the Sloop John B., and God Only Knows.

This will have this song stuck in my head for another 24 hours 😂 👏👏love those pics of their happy times in the vid. That guitar solo really changed things up. So unexpected and I think it wasn’t wildly popular for them at the time. How about Fleetwood Mac🤔

This was the first time a guitar was used in a ballad like this. It's common now but Richard actually insisted this be in this song. The title was also inspired by a movie. The premise of the movie is two musicians trying to write a song titled "I'll say goodbye to love". Richard loved that title so much he decided to pick up where the movie left off and here you go.

I would like to see you react to the song Something by The Beatles. The music video is a good pick.
