Lago di Braies vs Backcountry Dolomites in our VW Campervan

In this video, we take you on an incredible journey through the Dolomites, comparing the stunning Lago di Braies with the hidden gems of the backcountry. Join us as we explore these breathtaking locations from the comfort of our VW campervan and discover what makes each destination unique.

Experience with us the beauty of the iconic Lago di Braies with a twist as we experience the lake before, during and after a MONUMENTAL storm hits the mountain range. The changes are quite dramatic and make for some stunning photography that we will never forget.

We then venture off the beaten path for 48 hours to uncover some of the lesser-known, yet equally stunning, backcountry spots of the Dolomites. Join us as we navigate how to explore the Dolomites without breaking our budget.

We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. We retired from teaching at the age of 51 in the summer of 2022. Our plans for early requirement include relocating to the Yorkshire Dales, developing our forever home and travelling the UK, Europe and eventually the world in our VW campervan Nelson.

Great light after the storm; it just shows you have to get through the lows to experience the highs and the contrast vastly enhances the experience. We once arrived in the dolomites on the back of a storm and the clarity of the air was absolutely magical and enlivening.

I just love watching your videos, so much my kind of stuff and love a day or so in a busy place then a good bit of chill with no one but the hills. Don’t think a slightly bigger van will curtail your travels, with your own facilities it will free them up. I’m mostly solo and drive a 6m panel van anywhere you take Nelson and more….
