It’s going to be the largest Spirit Halloween store on the west coast

Optimism is nice, but misplaced. Gotta fix all those problems first. I am a SF local. Downtown is a dump, and a hub for homeless, druggies, and crime. No thanks

Rebranded to get robbed all day again? The SF Board of Supervisors just don't get it and never will. Not only will people not want to visit there due to crime, stores aren't going to want to be there cause of lack of customers. A 5th grader understands this.

"Rebranding". I love the terms politicians use to avoid reality.

If the city has money to rebrand the Westfield mall they can also give out money to the businesses that are struggling and are being affected by the neglect of the city leaders?!!?

It’s not police understaffing, it’s crime over staffing.

While finally acknowledging that there is an issue with theft, they are still unwilling to acknowledge there is an issue with certain groups being the biggest element in this downfall while overlooking the actions of individuals from the group because they are seen as part of the "victims" of America.

"Rebranding" is just PR spin. It doesn't change the realities.

It's going to take a lot more than some kind of half-assed "rebranding" of a mall to get customers to return to a city that's infamous for rampant crime and homelessness. The name Westfield has been in the press related to it's stores closing and for it's management just walking away from making any more payments on it's loan for the property. Very few people are willing to go there now to shop, I live 45 minutes away and the half dozen stores there where I used to shop are ALL closed now. RIP SF.

Nothing will change until the homeless camps are gone. And crime goes down.

They need a BIG DollarTree or Family Dollar stores in San Francisco, since all the nice and exclusive retailers have exited the city leaving the drunks, homelessness and crime, those guys need to shop somewhere, and where else better than the Dollar Tree?

If car break-ins and street crimes aren't resolved, people will hesitate to come into SF.

…”about 1/3 the police department who is supposed to be there isn’t there…” Where are they? Everyone wants to know

It should actually branded, "Soon To Be Abandoned."

“A rose by any name is still a rose.” Rebrand all you want but if you don’t fix the underlying issue of crime, the dead mall is still going to be a dead mall.

I spent a lot of time in that mall. The cafe under the dome was awesome as was the food court and grocery store at the lower level. The solution to crime and nuisance in the mall is simple. Just put a security guard at each entrance and don't let the junkies and homeless enter. It's blatantly obvious who is a junkie or homeless. There is no in-between. It's 100% unmistakable.

Of course, the City would never let the mall do that. And that's why we can't have nice things.

It’s the change of times!

I have no desire to go to malls

People hate others people!

Most of shopping are done online.

You gotta surf front of the wave and missed the wave on this. Lowering the rent for retailers would be the best change you have!!

LOL!!! It only works if there people around to buy stuff. SF is empty except for the homeless. No one can afford to live here because rents are too damm high.
