I am from Brazil and lived there for 35+ years before moving abroad.

Brazil tried controlling prices many times. And EVERY single time it failed and caused products to disappear from shelves.

And yes the prices were controlled. But no products could be purchased.

It’s a very DUMB idea, it’s horrifying to me, living now in the US, that some people actually think this is a good idea.

When Nixon tried it, there was a political cartoon with him standing with arms up, facing dawn's rising sun (labeled "Prices"), and saying, "I command you not to rise!"

There's a lot of way to evade price control. When Britain was under price control, milk price was controlled by the government, but the bottle it was sold in was not. So the price of milk bottle rose while the price of milk was kept low.

At the end of the French Revolution they wanted to control the price of bread. They set it at a lower price than flour. Obviously it didn't last long.

The real problem is a paradigm shift. In the 20th century having children became a burden and cost, not a blessing and the price of raising children was seen as a problem to be solved as they grew.

Just increase oil and natural gas production and watch inflation and higher costs disappear.

This food prices thing is the fault of Sen. Sherrod Brown D-OH. He calls it shrinkflation.

Most people would not notice a saw dust content of 2% in their bread. It gets problematic, when they have to put in +10% to stabilize the prices, because the crust does not darken anymore and chewing gets tought. The often served along gravel soup is not mean but helpful, grinding the sawdust down in your stomache, bacteria in your gut can then turn the cellulose into sugars, releasing large amounts of CO2, similar to the fartichocke.

Love you, Dennis! Love your intelligence and integrity, and your ability to convey common sense, which is uncommon these days.

correct me if im wrong, but if you have a right to anothers labors (be they a doctor, lawyer, or agricultural laborer) does that not make them a slave and you a slave owner?

One of my big peeves was the slogan "Quality Affordable Healthcare", implying Medicare or like programs. It's not quality, and it's not affordable. Drs limit how many Medicate patients they take because of the bureaucratic tangle and cost of it. They have to have enough other patients to cover for those costs. I had an elderly friend on Medicare who went through months of intense pain while his low cost Dr didn't properly diagnose him. I was asked to try to get him in to see my Dr. They could not take him for months. I said by then he could be dead. It didn't matter. He was finally taken to ER in horrible pain. They found he had pancreatic cancer, and yes, he had passed away before the Dr appt I made for him.

Food prices are increasing because there is not enough supply. If Kamalla gets in control there wont be any food in the grocery stores.

The Kakistocracy has eliminated a lot of things that are common sense.

I really wish everyone ( left and right) would use more truthful words when expressing opposing views to the other sides policies. We, on the right should not follow the latest trend of fear mongering and hyberbole. If we want to stand for truth we must speak the truth. I am pretty sure when Kamalala says she wants to impliment price controls to "stop coorperations from gouging the American people", she is not saying that they cannot "make a profit". What I believe she is saying is that she wants the government to decide how much profit a business can make. I deal with this is in real time in real life. I work for a business that does puplic works jobs ( which means it is paid with tax dollars). It is written into the contract, that if more work is added to the original contractual work, you can only charge for material and labor plus 10% overhead and profit. Which does not take into account that might not be the actual operating costs. AND per contract, we are obligated to do the extra work. Yes, it comes out the same in the end: no profit or a cap on profits dictated by the government, but lets at least identify the problems accurately, or else it gives the other side amunition to refute
