Blinken, Austin making case on Capitol Hill for Israel and Ukraine aid

On Capitol Hill Tuesday, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken are testifying before the Senate appropriations committee. They're hoping to garner support for the White House's proposed funding bill to finance aid for Ukraine and Israel among other security-related initiatives. CBS News correspondent Christina Ruffini has more.

Something that not enough Americans understand is that Ukraine is not getting even 10% of that in cash. I don't think the news host even understands that.

Ukraine is given a line of credit, and a list of soon to expire US weapons. If we weren't selling them to Ukraine for this war, we would be paying to dispose of them. The money that is approved goes to making new weapons for our own military.

Yes, we have problems in the US. The only way that the aid to Ukraine could be given to the US would be in aged weaponry. Do you want to help the homeless? Enough to give them an armored combat vehicle? Teachers are underpaid, especially here in Tx. Honestly, I could get behind giving them tanks and Javelins. But that is how the aid to Ukraine goes to Ukraine.

And to be honest, it would be useless to give cash to Ukraine right now anyhow. They need weapons ready to go to work, and not be put on a 3 year waiting list, waiting for them to be built.

But aid to Ukraine does not take any food out of the mouth in the US. That money goes to build newer, and better weapons for our military.
