Gaming Pastime reviews Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike for GameCube.

Developed by Factor 5 and published by LucasArts, Star Wars Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike was released for GameCube in October, 2003. Rogue Squadron III is fun overall with some excellent additions but also a disappointing sequel.

I honestly preferred Rouge Squadron 3 over 2 as a kid because of how hard 2 was (Especially the Razor Mission).

this game showed the true power of the GameCube, it even has Dolby Pro Logic IIx which is a variant of Dolby 7.1!

I absolutely loved this game and its predecessors as a kid. So many fun memories. I remember my favorite missions being the Destrillion & Dubrillion missions, as well as the Executor bonus mission. Trials of a Jedi was definitely the worst one. I would also have lots of fun using cheat codes and doing missions with the Imperial shuttle.

I also played the heck out of the splitscreen, there was tons of funs to be had! Dogfight with powerups was my favorite mode, you were even able to pick up a wingman and order to do things like cover you or hunt down your opponent. I recall we had to ban the use of Darth Vader's TIE Fighter because it had homing missiles and was so overpowered haha, good times.

This game is of my childhood favorites.

I think it did a good job filling in additional events that took place between the movies, plus the detailed cockpits for the vast variety of aircraft and the way the game plays at 60fps was truly groundbreaking for the time.

I wish we got a Rogue Squadron 4 after episode III with all prequel battle and some clone war mission using Naboo n1 and Jedi star fighter more would have been fun !!!

The on foot missions were terrible. I respect that they took a shot with them tho. Developers don’t take risks anymore. To me this is a must own GameCube game even with it being the worst rouge squadron game.

on foot stuff really was the worst idea ever, strange how virtual chess vs chewbacca was not included also lol

RS 2+3 look great on my Wii with component cables.
Shame that Lair PS3 tanked Factor 5

From the old EGM magazine interviews this game the devs seemed to have been through some intense crunch (as was customary unfortunately). They were utterly tired of the IP by the end…

Yeah I was a massive fan of rogue squadron 1 & 2 as well as Battle for Naboo. But I never got on with RS3 because of the on-foot stuff - it reminded me of playing as Dash in Shadows of the Empire and a lot of it was boring. I suppose the devs thought a third game with just ship combat wasn’t creative enough. It does have its high points - playing as the A-Wing pilot who took down the Executor in the Battle of Endor was pretty fun.

I liked the on foot stuff. Sure the camera and controls could've been better, but It was just fun to be able to experience a 3D 3rd person action game set in the original trilogy timeline. How many games have that? Exactly.

Not as good as rogue squadron 2. Mainly as the on foot battles were very clumsy compared to other 3rd person shooters of the time. With rogue squadron 1 and 2 it just focuses on vehicle combat and worked so much better because of it. a great game/s that doesn't get as much recognition due to them being set in the prequel universe are the Starfighter/Jedi Starfighter games. Not as graphically impressive but very enjoyable none the less
