I’m not sure why Oda made buggy and shanks look younger in the manga and in Odens memories in the anime . This version honestly matches their age at that time the best. In the new animation Marco looks like a grown man while shanks looks like a kid in the new episodes.

Some people complain about this not being in-line with Shanks and Buggy's ages on Roger's crew... I always just chalked it up to Whitebeard having always considered them men rather than boys. The respect is readily apparent- outside of the customary Yonko grandstanding with Shanks their interactions are fairly positive, and Whitebeard chose to be a bit of a hype man for Buggy rather than squashing him and taking over the prisoner forces anyway.
