Thanks for putting this together! I had read a little about the secret gospel of Mark, but hadn't heard the full story of who Morton Smith was, or how he found (and then lost) the letter. This is the most bizarre story

This may or may not be true, but there is no evidence that Morton Smith was gay. If you read the letter too it is Clement explaining to Theodore that the other preacher was lying about what was in there Clement denies that it is talking about homosexual behavior.

The last 12 verses of Mark were written later by different authors. Of course, we have no clue who wrote the original gospels anyway. They definitely were not written by Mathew, Luke and John. So far there has been no definitive proof that the Morton Smith found gospels were false. Homophobia is so strong in the religious community. It is a shame.
