Novation Bass Station II Arpeggiator + Ableton tutorial.

In this video i show you how to take control of the Novation Bass Station 2 arpeggiator using external midi from Ableton.
This also work with other sequencers and midi keyboards

Thanks Ricky. I thought it wasn't possible until I watched this video. I got my rm1x midi going to mc-808 & 3 synths. Then audio goes from each synth to its own sampler for fx. I currently only have a dj mixer, so the mixer goes to the 808 where I can add more fx. 😆 I have so much & still need more.

I have an issue with BS2 and Ableton. When I use external instrument on a midi channel, and wrote midi notes in draw mode. I can see Ableton triggering midi because of the yellow dots moving, but I don’t hear any audio. And yes, I have audio from set correctly on the external instrument device, setting it to bass station. Even if I’m in piano roll on Ableton and lick on a key, it doesn’t okay anything. So I’m thinking Ableton isn’t sending midi to the BS2 . I’ve followed many tutorials and I can’t seem it to play. I would like to play some notes and then go into piano roll and adjust some midi notes, but that doesn’t do anything. There’s absolutely zero sound if I draw it in. There is sound if I play the BS2, but not if I use Abletons piano roll.

noob question. What is the best way to use synth patches in your music? record directly onto an audio channel or like this (use midi)?? Thx

Having a strange issue with this feature on the AFX Station - when I send midi data to it from Ableton, it 'latches' whatever notes I send first and then remembers those as part of the arp until I restart the synth. Is there something I'm missing? It's such a workflow sucker :(

*Just to be clear, say for instance the first pattern was CEG played on patch 1 of the AFX Station, then I stopped playback in Ableton and moved on to patch 2 and sent FAB, it would play an arp consisting of CEGFAB. Even when I don't play any notes and just switch on the arp it keeps the notes. Any advice?

Thank you for this tip, very much appreciated! I'm trying to trigger an arpeggiated sequence I entered onto the synth in sync with Ableton's clock without having to write or receive MIDI notes from a MIDI track, would you know a workaround?

This is very frustrating what novation did here, so why the hell is it only to adjust in or out, so i can trigger it from ext gear but the bass station cant send the arp from midi out to other gear.. lol

I have a question - I've synced the bs2 to reaper and able to use the arpeggiator, however I want the arpeggiator to be in "double time" (16th or 32nd notes). Is it possible?

weird my bass station is set to channel to also.. NO jk.. I thought it was broken till i started randomly picking midi channels..
