I always appreciate the experience of others with the Stanley Cook Set; thanks for adding your thoughts. I have found that, if you replace the plastic tab on the top with a keyring, you can then close the handle under the key ring, lock the handle, and hang the pot by the keyring. I've done this a dozen times or more, and, even with a full pot, waiting for a boil, it holds. I wouldn't shake it vigorously, but when you lock the handle by pushing the little thing that locks it, it will hold its weight in water, and you do not need to drill a hole to hang a bail. At any rate, that's my two cents; thank you for sharing yours.

I replace the tab on the lid with the spring from one of those spring loaded wooden clothes pins. Hook the two ninety degree ends through the loop on the lid. It will stay up so you can grab it and stays cool enough to handle. I’ve watched loads of videos about hacks for these and I’ve never seen this mod.

I might've done something like that. Cheers for the warning.

I made a mod to my Stanley cup that doesn't require any additional "things" to make it work. It isn't my idea and I can't remember the YTer that posted the method, but it's brilliant, as you lot would say! He simply folded the cup's handle over the top until the looped end was centered in the air over the cup. He marked that spot on the plate that the handle hinges on and serves to lock the handle in its open and stored positions and then used a Dreemel Tool to grind two additional notches in it to lock the handle in that intermediate position. If you hook the handle with a stick or suspend it from a tripod with a cord or hook, from that point, it will balance in all directions, even better than it would with a common bail, with no added parts or holes required. I thought is was genius. I expect that a small rotary burr chucked up in the same drill that you used to drill your holes would work in place of a Dreemel, if you don't have one. Cover up those holes that cause your regrets with some aluminium HVAC tape.

No holes is best. Waypoint Survival has lots of hack. Thanks for showing us and take care.

That’s real dedication. You made the mistake and still chose to use it for seven years. It doesn’t get more conservative than that. Talk about recycling you’re the man.

I drilled my holes just under the rim above the handle and across, works good.

Thanks for the heads up, I was gonna do that to my cook set but never got around to it. Thank goodness I didn't now. Way Point Survival does the Stanley cook set hacks...and they are amazing. He's definitely worth checking out. Thank you again for the heads up video, keep up the good content brother.

I've been through a couple of them over the years. The only mod I ever make is to yank the plastic handle off the lid and take a 3" piece of wire coat hanger and fashion a tab to replace the plastic. There's no beating that little $14 piece of kit though. Stay frosty.

I just dremeled the part where the cook pot handle is so that I can fold the handle over on an angle and make it dangle just over the pot so it can be hung just if was a bale handle.

What if you drilled the two holes about 90 degrees from where they are now, with one of the holes just off to the side where the handle is? Then you could pour sideways.

I'm considering a few mods.
Thanks to you and a few others, IF I drill the holes, putting the hole just above the handle mount and directly opposite would remove the spillage issue.
Though I think the clamp is a friendlier option...
