I live and work in Guangzhou for about 8 years now. Since my workplace is on the other side of the city, I drive on the Guangzhou ring road highway for an hour daily, twice. So I drive a lot and a few months ago, I realized that the traffic decreased significantly!! At that time, I was assuming that this was due to the struggling economy. People lost their jobs or companies going bankrupt, thus less traffic. If you are correct Lei, then perhaps, I don’t need to share the highway with so many drivers because of both: declining economy AND declining number of people. That’s actually terrifying.

I have seen some reports indicating that in fact the population was never over 1 billion but was exaggerated by regional governments for financial reasons.

I remember years ago. Period when babies were being thrown in the river. And they were all girls. I knew this would come back and bite them on the butt.

I was in China last year. I saw multiple rural villages that were bulldozed into fields of rubble and covered with tarps. The inhabitants were forcefully expelled and taken to China's top tier cities to work as laborers and service staff due to a lack of urban employees.

Peter Zehan recently stated that China's real population number was more than likely at the 800 million level or less, not the 1.4 billion as claimed by the central government . Many have stated local officials had been inflating population numbers for years to get more funding from the central government.

I was in China in September of 2023 and was completely shocked at the lack of people and the total lack of children. Roads and streets were empty. Airports were mostly empty. I still think about it and it was haunting at times. I was in Hong Kong, Bejing, Guangzhou, Whuhoo, Foshan, and Huangshan. HongKong was the busiest by far but still less people than I thought. The other cities were shockingly empty.

Where did all their chinese people go? They died or left china and moved to different country. Chinese are everywhere in Australia, japan, us, canada, Panama, etc etc

My first thought was: People are going out less because they hold onto their money, the economy isn’t that strong right now

In the Uk, i notice the empty roads in London, my children are not having children..they say they can not afford them and they are uncertain as, to the quality of life for the children they might have if they could manage to have them. I feel like the very rich have, shot themselves in the foot going forwards. You cant be overlords in an empty world.
