I often get confused about when to use the "-ed" form versus the "-ing" form in participial phrases. For example:

Crafted with the pattern, it is beautiful.
Crafting with the pattern, it is beautiful.

He has a pretty pen, decorated by patterns.
He has a pretty pen, decorating by patterns.

How do I know when to use the past participle (-ed) and when to use the present participle (-ing) in sentences like these? Could you explain the difference and provide guidelines for choosing the correct form?

Thank you!
