I owned a dreamcast. It was ahead of its time. Awesome machine in it's day.

There were a lot of discs going around in magazines and inside other retail games that included an internet browser. The Dreamcast has a special place in my heart. Great games and the first introduction of ARCADE quality games to the living room. Will never forget the first time I saw Soulcalibur, something I only saw in ARCADES back then, in from of me at a friend's house. Amazing times! No updates/day-one patches needed. Pure game development ART!

I am glad you replaced those caps. The difference was easy to see after you put the new ones on. The were bulky all of them.

Haha, love the reaction to the LOUD disc drive. That really just is how the Dreamcast sounds!

Just wanted to say again how great it is that you recover these older electronics. Really enjoy both the diagnostic and repair processes that you guide us through. Do you have a list of the most common tools in your workshop (ie, fume hood, heat tweezers, cleaners, cleaning brushes, flux dispensers, etc)? Maybe you could do a walkthough of your workshop for one episode? Thanks again for sharing your methods and philosophy of keeping these devices operational and not e-waste.

One helpful hint when you put the lid back on, make sure you have lid open because you can snap the little sensor on the disc drive off very easily when it’s closed

I recently had to repair the fan on my VAO Dreamcast where the heatsink is attached to the motherboard. After watching some videos it looked to be mostly just basic screws and it was like building with Lego's. Surprisingly easy to fix and now it works like a charm. Great system ahead of its time!

The dreamcast had a MODEM, that's what that device with the phone jack is.

I remember giving Vince a warning over a Dreamcast he was fixing for one of his videos as he was jabbing at power board stuff with his fingers and how he didn't get zapped escapes me, I think he took notice as he began being a bit more cautious with angry pixie stuff as I wasn't the only one saying about it in the comments lol

I love the content you are putting out. Restoring old electronics is preserving history in a sense, so thank you for doing this and inspiring others to try. Also, I am enjoying watching your videos an seeing your health returning. I have been praying for your recovery. Looking forward to more videos.

It looks like the battery was already replaced as I see a vertical battery holder. The original battery was a tabbed one that was soldered to that board. The DC uses a rechargeable coin cell and if you don't power on and use the console, it will drain the battery. But it isn't likely bad and just needs to be left on for a bit to charge back up. But yeah, I think they will only hold the date/time for about a month if not used often.

Dreamcast is one of my favorite consoles. Awesome video!

You might have to lubricate the parts that move the lens, the two little bars under the lens. That might be why it makes that noise.
