You had *precisely* the correct response to "You are who you choose to be." "Superman." Shedding a manly tear here is entirely appropriate.

55 years old, ex U.S. Army Paratrooper, I was raised to hide my emotions and be a tough guy. I cry every time I watch this movie.

Don't apologize for crying, man. After all these years, I still tear up when the giant gets blown up. I love this movie so much and I'm happy you got to experience its greatness.

"SU...PER...MAN"

Arguably the most emotional one-word quote in movie history.

I don’t want to draw joy from watching another man cry, but you reacting exactly the way I do every time I see this movie meant a lot. This is a tremendous film

"You stay, I go...No following."

Cue me sobbing on my couch at 5 p.m. on a weekday.

"No Atomo... I Superman!"

Fun Fact: Excluding the yells and groans, The Iron Giant (Vin Diesel) only says a total of 53 words.

Animated Rant Fact: Brad Bird personally animated the scene where Hogarth (Eli Marienthal) rants to Dean (Harry Connick Jr.) about his problems in a super fast pace after he gives him Espresso. Because the character is talking and moving about so rapidly, Bird had to actually draw at least some part of every inbetween, the frames in an animated film between the key frames.

Movie Magic Fact: First traditionally-animated feature to have a major character, the title character, who is fully computer-generated. In order to better blend the computer-generated Giant into the traditionally animated film, technicians came up with a programme that gave the Giant's lines a slight "wobble" in order to match the natural line imperfections found in hand-drawn animation. The landscape and settings in the film were created using Elastic Reality, the trees and bushes in the woods are all still paintings that go through a software that warps and morphs them giving the perception that they are moving and lifelike.

This is one of my favorite films. Glad to know I'm not the only one that cries everytime they watch it. Brad Bird and his team were given nearly full creative control by the studio as long as the kept the budget low; and they friggin' nailed it.

There is no shame in crying at the end of this. I rented this movie when my 26 year old son was 3 years old. When the Iron Giant took off toward the rocket, he started crying loud. We realized he understood what the Giant was doing. That he was sacrificing himself to save everyone else. But thankfully, they had him putting himself back together at the end. Otherwise, we would have felt like terrible parents for showing this to him. My wife was also crying, but she cries during movies all the time. I generally do not cry even in sad scenes, but I am not ashamed to admit I had tears streaming down my cheeks as well.

This is one of the greatest and most emotional animated films ever made. I’ve never seen people not cry all the tears when he goes to sacrifice himself, myself included. I saw this for the first time at like eight or nine years old. Such a powerful movie with a fantastic message.

Aww...what a nice reaction.
I was one of the original animators on the movie. Believe me...all of us who worked on it are so glad that so many have found our movie and hold it so close to their hearts.
Thank you so much for your very sweet vid and I wish you all the best.

A great nod to 50s sci-fi movies, never get sick of this movie!

This is one of my favourite things I’ve learned about this movie:

Brad Bird was in part inspired to make this film as a memorial to his sister Susan, who died at the hands of her estranged husband by gun violence. His pitch was this: "What if a gun had a soul and didn't want to be a gun?"

You know a movie's a 10/10 when it can bring out those strong emotions in you.

It's a great film with a inspiring story and message. Remember watching it with my grandkids when it came out. I still have a copy of it in my film library. No apologies are needed for your reaction. The ending is very emotional. I'm 74 years old, and it still brings a tear to my eye. You can choose the kind of person you are. Thanks for this. Take care

Cartoons can tell powerful stories too. Brad Bird made an awesome, timeless sci-fi story about innocence, love and sacrifice.
