As a postman, I can assure you, it's the mail sorting plant workers, not the actual postman.

Committing a federal felony and risking losing your job for 10$ is insane.

Every bill that wasn't properly delivered by the post master is a federal mail tampering charge for the thief hope it was worth it since this is on the internet now

What’s sad is I’ve had this happen to me. My late grandmother sent me $50 for my birthday. The card got here but the money was gone and the card was opened.

Unironically, this is a good test to weed out which Postman or Mail Sorting Station is pocketing the Dollar.

Send it via certified mail. So it has a tracker on it, and they are legally required to get a signature from the recipient. If they dont deliver then, its a major felony for the post department in your town.

That is highly illegal like actual jail time

Someone mailed a wood/metal ring back to me so that I could remake it (he wears it in the shower and while doing dishes, so the finishes breaks down). He shipped it back in a regular envelope. When it got to me, there was a ring sized tear in the envelope and the ring was gone. The ring core cost about $17 and I can't imagine the ring was in a presentable condition. I lost all faith in USPS that day.

Recently had a knife sharpener stolen by usps. I watched the mail carrier drive up to my box, then just drive away and a minute later i got the notification it was delivered in my mailbox. I went the next day(it was "delivered" at like 4:57 pm)and complained to the post office and told them i watched them not deliver it and everything. Magically a couple hours later it was delivered to my door, i asked what happened and they said he delivered it to the wrong address.. an address that doesnt exist. 😂😂 My package was opened and clearly used

I’ve always received cards from my grandparents, where the envelope and card are all bent up and poorly taped back together, and my money is gone.

As a former postal worker, they are on it!! They used to do test with leaving money on the processing machine, and if you fail, not only were you fired, you were also looking at federal charges. SERIOUS!!

Federal prison for 10 dollars is insane. USPS is extremely strict about stuff like this and will find and punish the offender(s).

It’s not usually the mailman, it’s the ppl in the processing plants, in my experience (as a mailman).

I'm worried about how flimsy that money is. As a mail carrier, the flimsy envelopes often get destroyed by the mail sorting machines

I am working in export department of a courier company
1. We physically open, check each items because that a requirement by transport canada
2. We xray everything
3. Currencies, DG are not allowed we transfer it to customer service department to contact the customer
4. That courier driver you see is the last person he is making 40-50 per hour and they dont have time to open your package or read descriptions of 150 parcels so dont blame him

Hi, I worked for USPS in a distribution center for 3 years. We do not intentionally steal money from letters. However, improperly sealed letters (or letters just using the envelope seal) tended to not make it through the machine and would frequently bust open, spilling their contents. When that happened, they would be collected, and sent to the damaged mail department. They would attempt to match the item with the letter it came from, and if they couldn’t, you would just get sent the letter. So your money is most likely sitting in your nearest distribution center, in their damaged department, and that’s where it will stay until it gets sent back to the Department of Treasury. The letter machine can process up to 200k letters per night if running at full speed. Letters come in large rolling carts and get dumped onto the conveyor belt like that. It’s a rough process for letters. USPS employees are trained constantly to not take anything, as even taking a penny could cost us our jobs, and the postal inspectors do test them on it pretty regularly. They dropped a 100 dollar bill at my center that sat in the same spot for about 6 months until one day it was just gone, then a guy got fired for stealing. It’s kinda wild
