Net-zero homes has been one of the most popular ideas we've explored on Green Energy Futures and it's easy to see why. In one fell swoop you're free from your electricity bill and you have a solidly built home that's helping, not hurting the environment.

Well, this week we explore the evolution from 45-person team, multi-million projects to cheaper and simpler net-zero homes all in the space of six years. We talk to two net-zero pioneers in Peter Amerongen and Simon Knight talk about going from the Star Trek Enterprise of mechanical rooms to bare bones.

What kind of rack was used in the window awnings, they look adjustable? Or are they custom?

The cost still needs to come down though more yet. Mr and Mrs blue collar is not going to save any money as things currently stand, not over the course of a lifetime when you compare how much a net zero home costs to construct and what a life time of paying direct energy or whoever now for power would cost.
