Endless Love is a 1981 American romantic drama film directed by Franco Zeffirelli, starring Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt. Tom Cruise makes his film debut, in a minor role.
Based on the 1979 Scott Spencer novel of the same name, the screenplay was written by Judith Rascoe. The original music score was composed by Jonathan Tunick.

Critics compared the film unfavorably to the novel, which showcased the dangers of obsessive love. Despite the poor reviews, its eponymous theme song, performed by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie, became a #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. The song spent nine weeks at #1 and received Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for "Best Original Song", along with five Grammy Award nominations.

"Brandy", later called "Mandy", is a song written by Scott English and Richard Kerr.[1] It was originally recorded by English in 1971 and reached the top 20 of the UK Singles Chart.

"Brandy" was recorded by New Zealand singer Bunny Walters in 1972, but achieved greater success when released in the United States in 1974 by Barry Manilow. For Manilow's recording the title changed from "Brandy" to "Mandy" to avoid confusion with Looking Glass's "Brandy (You're a Fine Girl)". His version reached the top of the US Hot 100 Singles Chart. Later, it was recorded by many other artists. The song was a UK number-one hit in 2003 for Irish boyband Westlife.

This movie is memorable only in our minds and due to the Franco Zeffirelli necessity of beauty. The story was lost in he edition room. Zeffirelli said he had 8 hours of a beautiful and complex film related to the obssessions of loving. I hope those hours still exist and see light someday.

I was 16 (same age as Brooke) when this came out. It was rated R because they said it was close to porn due to the sex scene in front of the fireplace. They actually carded people who bought tickets. Crazy how far movies and ratings have come!
