This War of Mine took two years to develop, but it wasn't merely a matter of coding and designing a game. We were trying to grasp the real face of war. We read through memoirs and listened to the often heartbreaking stories of people who witnessed hell on earth with their own eyes. Today, we offer our sincere thanks to everyone for their support and for sharing their stories with us. One of these people is Emir Cerimovic – meet him in this video.

The game comes out on Nov. 14th at 10:00 AM PST (19:00 CET)

This game pretty much kicks the living shit out of the Glorification of War games like Call of Duty.
War is terrible, no matter from which angle you're looking - it should never happen to anyone ever, period. No one deserves to suffer.
An incredible idea for a game, 11bits! Once I get the money, I'll buy it for sure!

I am from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, I am really thankful that you made a game about the war. No one has so far, great job!

This trailer hits different in 2022... "War happens in someone's door steps"

'War always happens at somebody's doorstep.' Brilliant closing. So true.

I have a strange relationship with this game. I tell everyone its incredible, worth every minute of your time, beautiful, haunting etc. But I look at my play time on Steam and realize I barely played it for 10 hours. I stopped playing not because it's a bad game or because I get bored, but because its genuinely capable of making me feel sad and affected.

We don't need hyper-real graphics, celebrity voiceovers, next-gen particle effects simulating fountains of blood and tesselated guts and whatnot. This game does something brilliant - it tells a story (or rather multiple stories), with minimal dialogue, and holds a mirror up to the world. It doesn't come through in a Lets Play video on YouTube but to experience it yourself, it touches you.

I can't say enough good things about this game.

I'm from Bosnia and I had 5 years when the war started. I didn't live in Sarajevo, but in another town which was razed to ground level by the Serb forces. My family had to flee and leave everything behind... Some of our neighbors who decided to stay before the shelling started didn't survive even for a month. Some of them were slaughtered in their houses because they believed the soldiers would spare the civilians... I just wish that this never happens to anyone, and this trailer almost made me cry, even if I'm a full grown man.

There should be more games like this, that don't glorify war, but actually present the evil essence of it: Murder, rape, destruction and suffering of all living things (even animals were slaughtered en masse for food, plants and trees were chopped and burned for cold winter nights...)

I will definitely try to play this game, but I am really afraid of what memories it may return.

I remember back in basic training when our company commander used to tell us about his experiences during peace keeping missions. Now we all knew that war was terrible, but I doubt any of us knew just how terrible. What war can make you do against your fellow man, how war slowly eats away at your humanity until you have become something that can only be called an monster.

I remember the first time he talked about Sniper's Alley in Sarajevo. About how if you were an adult male you could most of the time cross it safely. But if you were a kid or a woman, they would shot you. Not to kill you, but to wound you. Why? Because they knew that more people would come in order to try to save you and all of a sudden they had more "targets."

Dammit, it has been almost two years since he told us about it but I still tear up when I think about it. Fuck war. Fuck what it turns people into. Fuck what it makes people do.

8 years later, this game still kicks you right where it hurts as you question yourself on what choices you’re willing to live with and how badly you want to live. Nothing comes easy and war brings out the worst in people, there’s no question.

This was a really masterful trailer, especially the shot of the city at the end. I've been fortunate never to see war on my country's soil so there's always this impression that war happens somewhere else. Yet that shot really serves to drive home that last quote of "It might happen to anyone. War always happens at somebody's doorstep".

I also love the game itself and I think it's one that most people should play at least once.

After surviving my first playthrough I had nightmares for weeks I can't even imagine what this horrible experience was like firsthand.

And this was how a legendary game was born. In the times when AAA studios are rehashing same stuff again and again or making Battle royal types, 11 Bits Studio really broke new ground. Hope they make a sequel and one last thing, the background music was phenomenal❤

Just got to the end of the war today, and it was heartbreaking for me due to all that I've done in the game. You've done something that affected me so much. Sad moments aren't really that scripted, and it really got me more than tragic death cutscenes in most video games. This game I will cherish for a while, if not for my lifetime, because it really is a cruel game. Food shortages, people getting sick in the winter, forced to be violent to innocents just for your own supplies. I'm not a war survivor, but this really made me have a bigger perspective on war's effects on people, and just a VERY little on myself. 11bit, you have done something so great, and I hope this game will still be alive and well, just as the survivors in the game tried to do.

I have spent my childhood in Bosnia during that war (age 12). This is so emotional for me. Kind of scared to start playing and evoke some memories that I'd like to forget :)

The way death works in this game is genius. A lot of fun to play over and over. It's even more fun to record and put your own story to!
