There are a lot of words to describe the various styles of mengu. On top of that, there are multiple words that refer to the same style of mengu depending on period, region, even the individual, and so on. I admit I possibly should have elaborated more. My focus though was how the mengu related to the shinobi no o (helmet cords). I would classify hoate as a style of megu.
