What the song is basically saying is, the guy has broken up with a girl, and realized that he should never have broken up with this girl, and he's still really deeply in love with her. Sort of like a warning to people, like, you never know how good you got it until you don't have it anymore. I took this song to a different angle when I found out my girlfriend was cheating on me. While she was at work, I took everything that she had and put it in my parking spot with a note that said get the fork out. I was in my house and my car was two blocks away. She really didn't want to go back to her Mothers house but she had no place else to go. The next day this guys wife calls be and asked if I knew what was going on and I told her everything I knew. My girlfriend's mother called me to tell be all the BS she used to make me look bad, but she didn't believe a single thing she said. What I did that night was I wrote the same letter to my X, her mother. her boyfriend and his wife, just to make it sound like they believed her BS. I turned Toto's song into a letter that said I've been over you for two days already. 😆
