Awkward Moments You Missed From the Nato Summit 2024

Meetings of global leaders can often be awkward affairs and the 2024 Nato summit in Washington was no exception.

US President Joe Biden welcomed his guests onto a stage inside the White House, and while most greetings were brief and formal, French President Emmanuel Macron received a very long handshake.

The group then did their best to look relaxed as they posed for the obligatory ‘family photo’.

Albanian PM Edi Rama took the relaxed vibe a step further with white trainers.

Then came a series of bilateral meetings between leaders.

Meanwhile, Jill Biden tried her best to keep the conversation flowing with the spouses of NATO leaders, after a visit to the Smithsonian Museum.

Later, the new UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had important business to attend to, watching England play the Netherlands in the Euros semi-final with Dutch PM Dick Schoof.

Joe Biden generously gave Starmer credit for England’s last gasp victory.

There was another blustery photocall outside the White House.

Leaders were waiting for a planned flypast, but it was cancelled due to bad weather.

NATO General Secretary Jens Stoltenberg provided some light relief over dinner, before toasting the NATO alliance on its 75th anniversary.
