Too Much Power? DEWALT ATOMIC Compact Series 20V Brushless 1/2' Drill/Driver DCD794 DCD799

In My Opinion, The Home Depot Exclusive Dewalt DCD794 and DCD799 are some of the most powerful compact drills we have ever used. It is sad we had a failure on our first DCD794, but this video provides serious redemption for those products. The ONLY miss for many people will be the lower RPM of these drills. On high the max RPM is 1,650 and on low, it is 450. Most battery-operated drills run at 2,000 RPM on high and 550 on low. The lower RPM might equate to the power these drills are able to provide.

The DEWALT Atomic drills are the shortest 20-volt drills that DEWALT currently makes. They provide a small footprint with great ergonomics and in some cases provide enough power that the user might want a side handle!

Both the DEWALT DCD794 and DCD799 are very impressive drills. I feel most people would enjoy using a nice, small drill when completing daily tasks.

If you need a compact drill/driver and you're looking at DeWalt I highly suggest the DCD800. It's the non-hammer version of the DCD805. If you need the hammer function then you need a bigger drill anyway.

Great follow-up video on this series. Becoming more compact every Gen. My 796 continues to serve me well under regular DIY conditions. Though I have asked it to do 1" in concrete and did it. If I were starting out, I'd have confidence in this drill.

People complaining about the vents of a drill being covered up sound like Apple with the whole "you're holding it wrong" thing. It's pretty much a given that you use a drill with both hands. Lots of people have large hands and lots of people wear heavy gloves, while the drills are only getting smaller. If a drill's performance is in any way affected by how I'm holding it then as far as I'm concerned it's a bad design. If anything I'd love to see our host cover them up as much as he can so if there are inherent issues with overheating we'd be alerted.

Bought the 794 last spring or so, have had no problems at all. I don't use it everyday all day, it's in my truck to use when needed. Bought it at home depot in canada, $69.00, that's like $50.00 us, drill, 1, 1.3 battery, charger and

DCD794 Vs. DCD800 - - - DCD799 Vs. DCD805 These are the comparisons I would personally like to see.

Thanks Brian, I don’t like the plastic Chuck surrounds but love the compact size. Would you choose the 799 over the 805 for your choice of compact Dewalt hammer drill?

I know my DCD777 beats the DCD708 atomic, despite having the same specs.
I had considered getting the 791 because it seems like the bigger body drills don’t get as hot.

I have an 18v Makita and 12V Milwaukee. I never use the larger Makita so far.

Ive consolidated all of my carpentry tools to dewalt flex volt.
I do a lot of homeowner stuff with them, cabinet shop work, custom mini cabin builds and commercial showroom build outs.
Dewalt just never disappoints but I am interested in a stubby hammer drill for right space work in the showrooms.
Many of them have poured concrete ceiling in high rises that require steel studs to be attached to concrete ceilings.
We usually use corded Bosch hammer drills for this but we have used cordless dewalt hammer drills successfully but never a compact hammer drill.
Could have used one many times.

Thanks for the informative video. Dealt seems to have a glut of powerful compact drills these days. Another comparison video would be great. Like how do these compare to the 805?

Thanks again for another thorough video.
Yellow n black have rarely let me down and when they have, it was generally simply from pushing them too far when far too hot 🇦🇺
Unfortunately our local dealers only supply made in🇨🇳 👎so
.... I do always import my tools from 🇺🇸 to get the 🇲🇽 made models...for some reason they just 'feel/sound' better imo.
In fact, we don't even have the DCD800 in ANY store in 🇦🇺, God bless USPS🍒
Keep up the gr8 work

I'm glad to see that it was just a fluke.

Isn't the 799 rated at up to 552 UWO while the 794 is up to 404 UWO? I guess that's why the hammerdrill performs slightly better than the drill/driver.

I don't have a ton of corded tools, but most of them are Dewalt. At the same time I have an absurd amount of cordless tools from several different battery systems. How many of my cordless tools are Dewalt? None. And that's my confidence level.

I’m not a Dewalt guy but have to give credit in the compact game their crushing!

I would like to see the little one used to make holes in steel,
Im pretty sure they just make these for compact use, not so much for heard work, cabinets and such
Id use one maybe to drill with some short brill bits if it fit any where. 👍
I work on cars
