How to Use Twitter - Beginners Guide

Want to learn how to use Twitter? I’m going to show you exactly how to use Twitter, step by step.

Twitter has been around since 2006. It started as a text only platform to share your thoughts with text, but they have added photos and videos and a lot more.

And Twitter has around 400 million daily active users.

You can browse Twitter without creating an account, but you won’t be able to post or extract with post. So it is recommended to create an account as the very first step.

You can set up a profile picture and add your interested. Then, you can follow people based on the recommendations.

Step 2: Exploring Twitter
When you land on the home page. The home page has two sides. For you side and the following side. For you side is Tweeter recommendations based on your activity on Twitter and your interest. The following side is tweets from people or companies you follow.

With each tweet that you see, you can like it, comment on it or reply to it or share it, which is called a retweet. You can also direct message the tweet to someone else.

If you haven’t followed anyone, this is a good time to do so.

Step 3: Following Accounts
With Twitter, you want to follow people. You can do that from the recommendation tab or you can go to the explore page. You can also search for people using the search function on top.

Step 4: Composting your own Tweet
You can share text, photos and videos as a tweet. Simply to the home page, write your thoughts and press Tweet. Tweets can currently be up to 280 characters long.

You can also use Hashtags and @mention signs in your tweets

Step 5: Posting a video, photos or polls
Sharing photos and videos on Twitter is very similar to sharing a text tweet.

Step 6: Profile overview
The profile page shows your bio, your following and followers count, and all your tweets and retweets in one place. You can edit your profile from here.

Step 7: Messages
Tweeter has a direct message option. You can message anyone on Twitter if they have that option selected on their account.

Step 8: Unfollow, Mute or Block
If you don’t want to see someone’s tweet, you can a few different options.
You can unfollow them, mute them or block them using the three dots on their tweet.

Step 9: Twitter settings
Twitter can be customized with light mode or dark mode and you can also change the colors and fonts size in the settings menu.

Step 10: Twitter Blue
Twitter has a premium version called Twitter Blue. This allows you to edit Tweets after posting them and upload longer videos. This is a monthly subscription.
